Florida’s Back to School Sales Tax Holiday Starts Today

Here’s what you can skip paying tax on and how to make the most of it in Pembroke Pines

The Back to School Break is on

It’s August 1, which means Florida’s Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday officially kicks off today and it’s running all month long through August 31.

If you’ve got kids heading back to school (or you just love a good deal), now’s the time to check your lists and stock up.

But this isn’t just about crayons and lunch boxes.

You can also save big on personal computers, tech accessories, and some everyday essentials with no school ID required.

What You Can Skip Paying Taxes on

Here’s a quick breakdown of what qualifies (and what to look for in local stores or online):

Personal Computers & Accessories (up to $1,500)

  • Laptops, desktops, and tablets

  • Printers, ink, and monitors (without TV tuners)

  • Hard drives, flash drives, RAM, routers, keyboards, webcams — the whole nerdy toolkit

  • Educational or productivity software (but not games or media apps)

Clothes & Footwear (up to $100 per item)

  • Everyday wear for kids and adults

  • Backpacks, fanny packs, diaper bags (leave the suitcase at home — that’s not included)

Bottom Line: Savings You’ll Actually Feel

If you're buying supplies for multiple kids or upgrading a family computer, skipping sales tax can mean real savings, up to $90 or more on a $1,500 device.

Pembroke Lakes Mall, Target, Best Buy, and even local office stores are rolling out back to school specials on top of the tax break.

And even if you're not a parent, this is a good time to grab that new laptop or router you’ve been eyeing.

Just make sure you’re under the item price caps.
